KDE is developing its own immutable Linux distribution called KDE Linux (Project Banana) to provide an unmodified Plasma desktop experience. Unlike KDE neon which is Ubuntu-based, KDE Linux is derived from Arch but features a read-only system with atomic A/B updates, Wayland-only sessions, and app distribution through Flatpak and Snap. The testing build is currently available for developers and enthusiasts, representing KDE's move toward a reference implementation that showcases their desktop environment without third-party modifications.
