Kaspersky's principal security researcher Boris Larin has dismissed claims that Google's newly uncovered Coruna iPhone exploit kit was developed by the same actors behind Operation Triangulation, which Russia alleged was an NSA operation. Google's Threat Intelligence Group published findings on Coruna, a sophisticated kit comprising 23 vulnerabilities targeting iOS 13–17.2.1, assembled into five full exploit chains. While iVerify's Rocky Cole suggested the kit bears hallmarks of US government tools, Kaspersky argues that shared CVEs (CVE-2023-32434 and CVE-2023-38606) don't prove code reuse, as both vulnerabilities now have publicly available implementations. Coruna has been observed in campaigns targeting Ukrainian websites and fake Chinese finance/crypto sites, with speculation about a secondary market for high-end zero-days.
