JavaScript Interview: Can You Stop or Break a forEach Loop? 🛑

If you use a .forEach() and you need to break, simply dont use a .forEach().

I do not think a loop can be stopped. It must run it’s course, it must do the thing we have told it to do.
When a loop is constructed, it will go through every single index it the iterable given to it, and perform the action.
But we can put in some conditons, which when they equate to False can cause the loop to break prematurely without completing it’s run on the iterable.
You do not necessarily need a break statement, as seen in a switch statement before we can break a forEach loop. We can simply use an if-else statement, detailing what conditions should be met (or not) for the loop to break.
N.B: I am not a Javascript Ninja, so you correct me if I make any mistake.

The Svelte ppl will recognize this but the very unknown javascript feature is also a possibility. But of course not for .forEach

Both the article and responses here are absolutely fascinating! With over 25 years of experience in Python, Java, and JavaScript, I was unaware of forEach’s inability to break. So, I learned something very cool.
My code tends to be functional (map-reduce, filter, etc). I rarely find a use case for forEach (introduced in ES5) as it is considered a function that produces side effects. While the article and responses posted present excellent solutions, I was considering how this could be achieved with generators (introduced in ES6). I opened a scratch file and here are my thoughts… it has issues, but was a good way to think about this.
