MIT Associate Professors Jacob Andreas (EECS) and Brett McGuire (Chemistry) have been named winners of the 2026 Harold E. Edgerton Faculty Achievement Award. Andreas is recognized for his research in natural language processing, particularly compositional generalization in language models, and for modernizing MIT's NLP curriculum. McGuire is honored for his work at the intersection of molecular spectroscopy and astrophysics, including the discovery of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the interstellar medium, as well as his exceptional teaching of large undergraduate chemistry courses.
