Nice tool, however not a real alternative to the biggest point of static sites. Static sites can be hosted on a potato and you don’t even need to pay for it. For example, Github Pages stays up for pretty much forever and yet you can do it 100% free, as static sites are a no-brainer.
If you are using an actual server, you need to run on a server, there are various alternatives. However, this is not comparable, as you definitely need to pay in some way, especially in terms of data, if you don’t care about the price, at all.
You give away some part of your setup, if it runs on a server you chose. If everything goes through Github, then nothing of your information is exposed.
Additionally, the article talks a lot about maintanability. Isn’t it more difficult to keep a single binary running on your own server, rather than just generating static content once and let Github take care of the rest? I doubt it.
It’s nice to see someone creating a custom tool for custom needs, but the comparison is not that valid, in my view.
