Expert, the new official Elixir language server that merges Lexical and Next LS, has reached its first release candidate (v0.1.0-rc.1). The project is sponsored by the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation and several companies, with Lucas San Roman working full time on it since June 2025. Key features include compiler diagnostics, completions, go-to-definition, refactors via Refactorex integration, formatting, monorepo support, and a VSCode extension. The team is prioritizing stability first, then feature parity with Next LS and ElixirLS, before adding new capabilities. Users are encouraged to try the RC and report bugs with detailed reproduction cases.
