GitHub is rolling out Issue Fields in public preview for select organizations. This feature replaces label-based workarounds like `priority/p0` with typed, org-wide metadata that supports single select, text, number, and date field types. Organizations get four preconfigured fields out of the box (Priority, Effort, Start date, Target date), pinned to relevant issue types. Admins can customize up to 25 fields per org, pin them to specific issue types, and use them for cross-repo search and filtering. Integration with GitHub Projects (private projects only), timeline event tracking, and full REST/GraphQL API support with webhook events are also included. Access is currently limited and requires requesting via a community discussion.
