Is PHP the new JS?

Calling PHP the new JS flips the script in an unexpected way. It’s not about replacing JavaScript, but recognizing how PHP has silently matured while we were all busy chasing the ‘next big thing’. Maybe it’s time we stop equating ‘legacy’ with ‘irrelevant’.

Absolutely not, it never had anything special to begin with, an unusually popular technology that attracted too many amateurs producing a ton of copy-paste nonsense and some popular e-commerce, blogging, forum and wiki platforms, while making the internet vulnerable to all kinds of attacks in the process.
I know, I know, FB uses PHP too, and their own heavily optimized compilers and tools. Not sure how much of it is still PHP or how many data breaches and security problems they had until now because of it.
PHP is and always will be a Hypertext Preprocessor.
Trying to modernize it means completely morphing it into something it was never meant to be.
I understand, we’re all tired of chasing the next JS framework or library, but it’s not JS’ fault, it shows just how versatile the language and technologies behind it are.
GoLang is simple on the outside, but hard for someone not used to a more direct memory management style or multi-threading.
Rust is not very friendly, but has some good ideas behind it.
What else ? C#, Java, Python, Elixir ? Paradox of choice.
PHP’s comeback shows just how important backwards compatibility really is.
Not everyone wants to live on the bleeding edge constantly, some just want to do the work and cash that paycheck, without worrying about the next year or the next month.
But going back to PHP is not a solution, just a symptom of a non technological problem.

A bit of fun: Many like PHP because they see dollars $💰everywhere 😁.

My main problem with PHP is that it is a scripting language, probably the fastest, but scripting and you feel that when you are writing CPU bound tasks. The other one is its inconsistency with the array functions but nothing that the Laravel Collections don’t fix.
