iOS 27 will add a native 'Create a Pass' button to the Apple Wallet app, allowing users to build their own Wallet passes without a developer account, signing certificates, or third-party tools. Users can scan a QR code from a paper card or build a pass from scratch using three color-coded templates: Standard (orange), Membership (blue), and Event (purple). This addresses a 14-year gap since PassKit launched in 2012, where most small businesses never adopted Wallet passes due to the technical barrier. The feature is expected to preview at WWDC on June 8 and ship publicly in September 2026. Open questions remain around iCloud sync, .pkpass export, barcode format support, and lock-screen behavior.
