VCs are pulling back from AI SaaS startups that lack genuine product depth. Investors are no longer interested in thin workflow layers, generic horizontal tools, basic CRM clones, or AI wrappers built on top of existing APIs. What remains attractive is vertical SaaS with proprietary data, AI-native infrastructure, and platforms deeply embedded in mission-critical workflows. The rise of AI agents is eroding the value of human workflow stickiness, and MCP is making integrations a commodity rather than a moat. Investors are reallocating capital toward businesses that own workflows, data, and domain expertise, while rigid per-seat pricing models are also falling out of favor.
