While primarily targeted at developers, tinkerers, and hobbyists, this Mainboard represents a significant step towards more open and customizable consumer electronics. The mainboard is based on the StarFive JH7110 chip, featuring 4 U74 RISC-V cores. It delivers solid Linux support through collaboration with Canonical and Red Hat, ensuring compatibility with Ubuntu and Fedora. Although it may not match the performance and features of Intel and AMD chips, it provides an entry point for those interested in exploring the RISC-V ecosystem. The mainboard boasts soldered memory and non-upgradeable eMMC storage but supports microSD cards. DeepComputing’s collaboration with Canonical and Red Hat guarantees strong Linux support for the RISC-V Mainboard. This announcement coincides with the availability of open-source CAD files for the laptop shell and the introduction of more affordable factory second systems, further encouraging the adoption of RISC-V technology.</p>
