Stripe and Tempo have co-launched the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), an open standard enabling AI agents to make payments programmatically without human intervention. MPP supports microtransactions, recurring payments, stablecoins, fiat via cards, and buy now pay later methods through Shared Payment Tokens. Stripe merchants can accept agent payments using the existing PaymentIntents API in a few lines of code, with full support for tax, fraud protection, and reporting. Early adopters include Browserbase (pay-per-session browser infrastructure), PostalForm (physical mail), and Prospect Butcher Co. (food delivery). MPP is part of Stripe's broader Agentic Commerce Suite alongside ACP and MCP integrations.
