Anthropic is launching routines in Claude Code (research preview) — a feature that lets developers configure automated tasks once and run them on a schedule, via API call, or in response to GitHub events. Routines run on Claude Code's web infrastructure, eliminating the need to manage cron jobs or MCP servers manually. Three types are available: scheduled routines (hourly/nightly/weekly), API routines (triggered via HTTP POST with per-routine endpoints), and webhook routines (starting with GitHub PR events). Use cases include nightly backlog triage, deploy verification, alert triage, automated code review, and cross-SDK porting. Available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users, with daily limits of 5–25 routines depending on plan tier.
