The Linux Foundation has announced Project Glasswing, a coalition including AWS, Apple, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and others, aimed at giving open source maintainers free access to advanced AI for defensive security. Powered by Anthropic's Claude Mythos Preview model and backed by up to $100M in usage credits from Anthropic, the initiative addresses the growing threat of AI-generated zero-day vulnerabilities. The project will help maintainers identify and patch vulnerabilities at scale, with $2.5M donated to Alpha-Omega and OpenSSF, and $1.5M to the Apache Software Foundation. The goal is to level the playing field so maintainers of critical open source infrastructure have the same AI-powered security capabilities as well-resourced organizations.
