OpenTelemetry is launching a new initiative called Blueprints and Reference Implementations, driven by the End User SIG and Developer Experience SIG. The initiative addresses the complexity of adopting OpenTelemetry at scale by providing prescriptive, opinionated guidance for common observability scenarios. Blueprints will cover common challenges, general guidelines with architecture diagrams, and implementation steps — without replacing existing documentation. They are grounded in real-world reference implementations already shared by Adobe, Mastodon, and Skyscanner. Three blueprints are currently in progress: non-Kubernetes infrastructure instrumentation, Kubernetes observability, and centralized telemetry platforms. The project is actively seeking community contributions of additional reference implementations and blueprint proposals.
