37signals has open-sourced Action Native Push, a Rails gem that sends push notifications directly to Apple and Google services. Built as part of their cloud exit strategy to replace AWS SNS and Pinpoint, the gem handles over 10 million daily notifications for Basecamp and HEY. It uses HTTP/2 persistent connections for improved performance and automatically manages retries, rate-limiting, and device cleanup.
