Intel has released the Media Driver 2026Q1, a quarterly open-source update providing VA-API support on Linux. The highlight is continued Nova Lake S (NVL-S) enablement, including accelerated VP9 and JPEG encode support. The release also includes fixes for HEVC, AV1, and VP9 decode paths. The driver supports Intel integrated graphics from Broadwell through the latest Battlemage dGPUs and next-gen Nova Lake iGPUs. Alongside this, Intel oneVPL 26.1.5 was released with improved AV1 decode robustness and various fixes to the VPL GPU Runtime.
