Nearly two decades after Intel's Poulsbo platform caused headaches for Linux users due to its closed PowerVR SGX graphics IP, the GMA500 open-source display driver is still receiving minor upstream patches. SUSE developer Thomas Zimmermann has submitted a patch series adding client buffer support for the GMA500 driver's FBDEV emulation, replacing ad-hoc internal framebuffer creation with standard DRM interfaces. The patches are included in the drm-misc-next pull request targeting the Linux 7.1 merge window in April 2026.
