The Microsoft Surface Pro, initially released in 2013, still holds potential despite planned obsolescence. By installing the latest Ubuntu Linux using the Linux Surface project, an old Surface Pro with Intel's Kaby Lake i5, 8GB RAM, and beautiful display can be transformed into a fully functional, responsive device. Important steps include modifying UEFI settings and leveraging Linux surface project utilities. The results show that despite some limitations, especially with touchscreen and battery life, the Surface Pro running Ubuntu can still serve as a viable, everyday computing device.
