A teardown of cheap Chinese touch-controlled mains voltage dimmers reveals they're built around the Tontek TT6061A chip with cost-cutting omissions from the reference design. The devices have significant safety issues including lack of proper EMI shielding, missing components for LED compatibility, and potential electric shock hazards due to absent safety capacitors. They're only suitable for low-power resistive loads like incandescent bulbs. Safer alternatives include capacitive touch controllers that work through plastic enclosures.
