Indian authorities have launched a nationwide audit of CCTV cameras after police in Ghaziabad uncovered an alleged Pakistan-backed espionage operation. Solar-powered cameras were found streaming footage of railway stations and critical infrastructure over cellular networks to viewers in Pakistan, with Indian citizens allegedly recruited to install them. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in IoT/CCTV devices, which commonly run outdated Linux firmware and are susceptible to botnet exploitation like Mirai. India's Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered a security audit of all CCTV cameras, and the government reminded citizens that only 507 certified cameras are approved for sale, with government entities required to use them.
