The software development landscape has shifted dramatically in 2025, moving away from traditional JavaScript and React skills toward AI-integrated development. Developers must adapt by learning to implement AI into workflows, build AI-first applications, and use AI tools to accelerate traditional coding. Entry-level positions are being automated, but opportunities exist for those who master AI development tools and can build solutions for non-tech companies seeking AI integration.

In 2025, it is NOT about JS and React Development.

Barely shifted at all, let alone “dramatically” as you click-baiters like to create drama constantly. The common toolchain has stayed relatively unchanged.

I had to look for a job earlier this year, and frankly no one’s hiring for “AI”. They’re still hiring for React, React Native, Angular, and increasingly Svelte. The interviewing process is in fact hostile to AI. If interviewers think you’re using AI tools while talking to them, they’ll bounce you out. I’ve done my share of remote coding assessments in the past and the tools used now are incredibly locked down and draconian, I’m told this is to filter out candidates that rely on AI. I haven’t seen any postings asking for developers with experience writing prompts for Cursor or Amazon Q. This goes for established companies, and new companies with AI in their name.
Now for the past few years companies have been anxious to leverage AI, that’s true and the subject for a different talk. If you’re on the market best to focus on the fundamentals, not to go with the hype.

Good video and essentially what people have been saying over the last 12-24 months. If you don’t get on board with AI and how to best use it you will be left behind.
Generally that means for anyone in their general workflow (emails, writing, idea generation). But this is specifically from a development perspective which is interesting to hear.

I personally don’t think AI is a must. In fact, I think it’s best to avoid AI code at all costs because it is messy and hinders your learning. I’m speaking from experience. Sure, AI can be helpful here and there, but it’s not good to rely on AI-generated code too much, especially as a newer dev.
Notice I am specifically talking about AI code, not AI in general. It can be helpful to ask AI for concepts and tutorials.
