AI code generation tools don't change fundamental software development principles: code remains a liability, more code leads to more bugs, complex systems require better architecture, maintainable code takes effort, and typing speed was never the bottleneck. The ability to generate code faster and in larger quantities through AI may actually amplify these challenges rather than solve them.

If code is liability, what will happen when we can generate tons of it using AI?

I was expecting we had Skynet by now and you’re saying all we’ll get is more buggy code?

This codebase is afraid of me. I’ve glimpsed its ugly core. The modules are sprawling junkyards, bloated with AI-spat code, and when the bugs finally reach critical mass, all the API endpoints will return 500. The festering mess of their rushed features and copy-pasted logic will pile up to their necks, and all the PMs and tech leads will scream, “Fix it!”… and I’ll whisper, “no.”

Abundance breeds complacency, and that can lead to major security and other types of issues. But if AI can see the overall picture and write code accordingly, then things can be different in future.
