Kernel mode anti-cheat is problematic again and I hate it.

Kernel-level anti-cheat systems from different game publishers are creating compatibility conflicts, with Battlefield 6 refusing to install when Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat is present. These systems run with privileged access to detect cheating but raise serious privacy and security concerns. Riot's Vanguard is particularly invasive, running continuously and hooking system calls. The proliferation of competing kernel-level anti-cheats creates a fragmented gaming ecosystem where players may need separate computers for different publishers' games. Microsoft is working to address these issues by moving security software out of the kernel following the CrowdStrike incident.

I’m not a gamer so this is kindo of news to me. This is wild.

I’m an avid gamer and I will say, any game that requires a kernel-level anti-cheat I will be staying away from. I have no interest in leaving my system and my information so vulnerable to experience a few less cheaters in a video game.

I don’t understand why “cheating” is an issue in a place where nothing is supposed to be taken seriously and now it seems this solution to a non-serious problem is creating actual serious problems. Which begs the question, are gaming consoles actually dead or did this problem just bring them back from the dead?

I am very anti-cheat in general but when it comes to gaming, I abhor it. It removes the fun. And guess what else removes the fun? Not being able to install a new game because of anti-cheats glued inside. It would be a fine day if people did not find it within them to cheat, but such is life.
And speaking of gaming and Microsoft, they better be on top of these compatibility issues because their new price increase is going to bite them back big time.
