HDMI 2.1 supports 4K at up to 144Hz without DSC, HDR, and VRR (including FreeSync and G-Sync), making it fully capable for most gaming scenarios. When a monitor's DisplayPort is already occupied by other devices and the refresh rate cap is 144Hz, there is no practical reason to prefer DisplayPort over HDMI 2.1.
