What a mess. I wonder if this is enough to wipe this company out. There no reason nor guarantees that paid VPNs don’t do the same thing to some extent, except for the fact they will lose money. Worse case scenario is you pay for the service and still have your data secretly sold and your network opened.

In my opinion, commercial VPNs (paid or free) are worthless unless you are specifically trying to hide your IP.
For most other use-cases, such as “privacy” or preventing eavesdropping on public WiFi, a simple Wireguard setup (or even Tailscale for people who are not too comfortable with networking) will offer a lot more privacy and control for a fraction of the cost
