Implementing a USENIX paper on microservice caching revealed the "Microservice Blindspot" problem: when services form dependency chains, cached data becomes stale without upstream services knowing. The solution involves tracking service dependencies as a directed acyclic graph and using active invalidation cascades. Transienta, a Rust-based sidecar with Go SDK, implements this by intercepting service calls, logging dependencies, and walking the graph in reverse to invalidate stale caches when data changes. Key challenges include managing dependency history efficiently (solved via timestamp-based tagging), minimizing code changes for developers, and handling write-heavy workloads that trigger excessive invalidation cascades.
