Five AI-powered CLI coding assistants (Gemini CLI, Qwen CLI, Crush CLI, Kilocode CLI, and Codex CLI) were tested by building the same React Todo app with TypeScript. All tools generated production-ready code, but differed in speed, UX quality, and feature completeness. Kilocode was fastest (under 1 minute), while Codex was slowest (over 3 minutes) but delivered superior UX with features like Enter key submission and completion summaries. Qwen and Codex provided the best code quality and user experience, while Gemini and Crush offered good balance between speed and basic functionality.
