It stands for a “performant npm”, which is not a stretch because it is much faster than any other package manager I used. Besides that, it has many great features.

A package manager called pnpm is a faster alternative to npm, yarn, and nvm. It offers features like workspace support, patching dependencies, managing runtime versions, and peer installation.

I replaced npm, yarn and nvm with pnpm

We also moved lerna and npm workflows to pnpm and so far it’s been a blessing.
A lot faster and optimised, also easier to keep everything inline across the monorepo.

if you have employees in your company that have Windows, I don’t recommend using pnpm, there are a lot of bugs. But if everyone uses mac, pnpm and bun can be a good way to go

My senior from my company advised me to switch to pnpm and it was really fast and great, especialy optimized and helpful in big projects and for RAM of my Windows laptop

In the last period I am really considering switching to pnpm, but I can’t find viable resources highlighting eventuali downsides or things that you should take care of when switching. Any advice about this?

pnpm is a disaster with remix and angular. For remix install, It creates almost the double of files and directories, taking more than 10 minute to finish.
