<p>For my experience, I would rate the lack of function overloads in Rust as a minor pain point that has upsides to alleviate it. The major problem is that the alternatives to function overloads; template functions, and function template syntactic sugar such as <code>fn do_something(data: impl SomeTrait)</code>. If placed in a trait, that trait cannot be boxed, even though the type itself can.</p>
