I'm lost. Advice for a 2 year average programmer?

Well hell, if this guy’s not having any luck, then I’m proper fucked. And not the monetizable, OnlyFans kind.

Two years ago devs like him would be hired in no time. People in comments are saying that it’s not enough, that he needs to learn AI stuff etc. But we cannot now everything. It’s simply too much. A couple of years ago mobile development was hot topic and now it’s not that much. Jumping around the hyped technologies doesn’t sound right to me. But I guess we need to adapt.

Don’t look at companies that are software companies. look at opportunities that are more of support roles, companies that need developers for their enterprise software. Healthcare is one of them.

Every time I read stuff like this I become more and more convinced that despite being a web applications dev for over 16 years, I would struggle to find another job if I ever needed to. The “Real World” of dev is so far detached from what I do I don’t even recognise it.

There’s a lot you can do in this situation (join another bootcamp, complete more courses, do one more personal project, etc.), but I usually recommend starting to get real feedback from interviews. This way, you can understand much faster what companies are actually looking for and what you need to improve. And how to get to an interview? Update your resume to match the initial requirements specified in the job description. Unfortunately or not, people have been lying on their resumes for years (and service companies still do it), so especially during these difficult times, perhaps the right thing to do is to “fake it till you make it.”
