This has something that’s been on my mind for a while. With all these new tools that we have at our disposal and the ability to generate code so quickly and easily, we’re entering a phase where developers that used to learn through the friction of running into issues and researching &amp; experimenting their way out of them, aren’t going to have the same opportunities (and I think the friction was a good thing!).
Those neural pathways that are created from those struggles are going to be less likely, and the process of troubleshooting/critical thinking won’t as honed.
These skills are still essential, because LLMs are not infallible and when they fail, if you don’t have these skills honed, its going to be a real tough time.
Ultimately, I want to help developers gain a stronger sense of confidence because I think it will feel even easier to fall into imposter syndrome with these tools allowing developers to “punch above their weight class”. IMO, Fundamentals never go out of style.
