After 20 years of daily Emacs use, the author has officially retired from it by replacing the last two Emacs applications they relied on: the Emacs Calculator (replaced with stackcalc) and Elfeed (replaced with Elfeed2). Both replacements are native C++ GUI applications built with wxWidgets. The author shares their experience with wxWidgets as a cross-platform GUI toolkit, noting its strengths and quirks compared to Dear ImGui and Qt. They are also seeking new maintainers for 13 actively-used Emacs packages they authored, including Elfeed, nasm-mode, and skewer-mode, with a clear process for handoff.
