With the growing number of users jumping from Windows to Linux, I decided to fully take the plunge and dive deep into the Open Source ocean. A few months and several headaches later, it has proved to be the best computer-related decision I've made in over a decade (and perhaps in my entire life).

What a strange coincidence, I just trashed my Windows 11 Gaming PC / Daily Driver and replaced it with Fedora with KDE Plasma. Loving the experience and, like the OP, I too have a renewed energy working in this environment. So slick and smooth.
Also, and this is the funniest for me, games that were crashing on Windows are now suddenly working on Linux (under Proton Experimental), go figure.
My only regret is not doing it earlier.

Oh wow, just read through some of the original comments on this post, clearly the “Acktshually Brigade” from Stack Overflow are bored, now that it’s usage is so low, and are wondering wildly around the internets finding an outlet for their righteous correctionism and pious downputtery.

It isn’t just gaming, it is also having compatible VPN software and other things I need to work remotely that prevents me from using it as a daily driver.
Microsoft big offense is charging for win11 licenses (they’re still technically $139 even if you got your upgrade for “free”) and treating it like freemium software. None of the enterprises really care about gaming or gamers. I wouldn’t expect Microsoft to perk up until the average Joe and businesses start swapping out Windows for Linux.

yea, I actually had just put together a new build about a year ago and been using windows. I have been spending a lot of my free time getting more comfortable with the CLI and even started using WSL to get a feel for Linux CLI and I like that exp alone, over PS CLI. Sure, for someone like me- still very much a novice in the realm of CS but, the more I learn about Windows and Linux; as well as how much I have been incorporating WSL into my IDE sessions (mainly just for the BASH terminal, lol). Makes me almost regret installing Windows 11. The fact that we can’t turn the telemetry off and all the other spyware is absolutely mind boggling and at the same time, not surprised. I might as well just install fedora or ubuntu to get more of a feel and eventually… Kali cuz, why not?

I’ve been using linux for about 15 years or more (mainly Mint)…
But 2 years and half ago or so, I’ve bought a light gaming laptop to try some Witcher 3 (I didn’t really try any gaming since the early 2000’s), and installed Windows 11 on it (since it was pretty much the only option for gaming).
And, unpopular opinion, I find Windows 11 quite neat… Apart from some bugs with the task bar.
Since I primarily use my professional computer (a Macbook) I don’t feel any urge to switch back to Linux on my personal one.
Maybe I will add a Linux dual boot eventually though…
