With the rise of web-based tools and the diversity of Linux distributions, switching from Linux to Windows is becoming less necessary. Linux now supports a wide range of software, including proprietary ones, and offers unique advantages such as freedom from ads, better containerization tools, and solid gaming support through Steam. The flexibility and control Linux provides, combined with web access to essential services like Office 365, make it a compelling choice over Windows.

I’ve been trying to switch from Windows to Linux for years. Every year or two I’ll make the change, try it out, get frustrated with Linux’s shortcomings and switch back to Windows. This year is the first year it has stuck and even though I have dual boot setup, I have not switched back into Windows for months now. Fusion360 is literally the only reason I need Windows now (I don’t like FreeCAD).

The only reason I personally have a Windows install is because of gaming. For work and hobby programming I just use Linux.

A widespread switch to Linux won’t occur until anti-cheat software developers can implement effective kernel-level monitoring that cheaters cannot easily disable. This issue was recently highlighted when Apex Legends blocked Linux users from accessing the game entirely.

As long as multi-monitor and multi-GPU support under Linux is still a hassle, Linux is unusable for me as a desktop os.
