I can’t agree more with you, mate. Learning fundamentals is a must. You don’t learn fundamentals over a 1 year bootcamp. That’s why software engineering (and CS) is a career for life. Protocols, networks, coding paradigms, design patterns, maths, logical thinking, architecture design… you need time and a strong knowledge baseline to develop that.

As someone who is wanting to learn web development I think this guy is pretty reasonable. Learn things like react for short term succes but don’t get stuck and sucked into them. An analogy would be specializing in a branch of math while never fully understanding basic mathematical conepts. Thanks for the article.

react has been around going on 12 years lol, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s the most used frontend framework and including its variants its more popular than ever.

I 100% agree with the author, but I’m also old and have been doing development a long time so what do I know?
However, I will reiterate the author’s point to learn the fundamentals. If you’re a web dev learn HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript. Even if you learn 80% of what W3Schools has on those 3 topics you will be miles ahead in knowledge compared to most web devs I see today.
