Every couple of years we go through the same AI hype, every time the “phrase this time its different” , but yet the same results.
The massive problem with AI, and the elephant in the room none of these AI wizards care to acknowledge, is that for the most part, they are trying to use AI to solve exactly the wrong problems, and as a result they make the problems worse.
I have worked in software development, for 25+ years and in that time I can’t tell you the number of technologies that have come and gone to “Automate Coding”, they all failed because the primary problem with Software Engineering has nothing at all to do with the Coding part. The problems with code, is the 3-4 steps before the actual code implementation.
The absolute glut of AI generated content these days, is so obvious and for the most part total crap. It is obviously become AI Generated content to be read by AI, nothing else.

I couldn’t agree more! Let’s face it; there’s nothing “intelligent” in current AI (please don’t talk about Gen-AI). It’s a calculator, period.
Yes, it has fancy algorithms and all sorts of bells and whistles that I’m sure are super interesting to work on as a tech person. But the bottom line is that it’s about data interpolation or extrapolation.
It’s nothing deterministic. It is interesting in many use cases as it can give clues, and help you get out of the corner where you painted yourself. But it’s not reliable, and will never be as long as the source of it all is biased, opinionated, incomplete data.
Think of the movie “Planet Stupid”, and imagine where those “AIs” will be in a hundred years, only fed by us all stupid humans, our fears and anger.

AI hype is exactly like Notetaking, and the Blockchain hype was made possible only thanks to social media. Only the evangelists gained in the process.

Each technology gets a hype cycle. It’s ok to get sick of them, and it’s great to speak loudly and consistently about where the technology doesn’t live up to the hype.
