Hyperscale Power, a startup founded by ETH Zürich PhD researcher Daniel Rothmund, has raised a €5M seed round to develop solid-state transformers that operate at much higher frequencies than competitors, enabling a significantly smaller footprint. The company enters a rapidly growing market where rivals like Amperesand, DG Matrix, and Heron Power have collectively raised over $330M. The push is driven by surging data center power demands — Nvidia racks already exceed 100kW and are heading toward 1MW — making traditional iron-core transformers increasingly impractical due to their size.
