Indie game studio Heart Machine, known for Hyper Light Drifter, has voluntarily recognised a union formed by 13 of its staff members through the Communications Workers of America (CWA). Staff announced their intention to unionise in February following multiple rounds of layoffs at the studio in recent years. The move is part of a broader wave of unionisation in the games industry, with CWA having helped nearly 4,000 workers organise across Microsoft-owned studios including Id Software, Bethesda, and Blizzard.
