How Your Phone Screen Actually Works

Capacitive touchscreens work by detecting the electrical charge of the human body rather than physical pressure. Beneath the glass, a microscopic grid of transparent wires projects an invisible electrical field above the screen surface. When a finger enters this field, it absorbs some of the screen's electrical charge, completing a circuit. Sensors in the corners measure where voltage dropped in the grid to calculate the exact touch coordinates in milliseconds. This is also why regular winter gloves prevent touchscreen interaction — the fabric blocks the electrical connection.
