Important: if you’re really going to demo to ‘new users’ don’t do it on Linux. Linux, wonderful as it is for some use cases, still isn’t truly ‘new user’ friendly out of the box. AND most users will have started at home on their (parents) home machine, which will very likely be Windows or Mac NOT Linux. Using a Linux box is perfectly ‘normal’ for you but it is NOT (and won’t ever be) the ‘default’ state (seriously, you don’t want it to be, but that’s a separate conversation)
In this article the first thing the author does is… command line. In Windows the python install is a very good download and install from the python site at <a href="http://python.org" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">python.org</a> (yes you can do it in PowerShell with <code>winget</code> but new user right?) Oh and remember to tick off the ‘add python to the path’ box. That tip IS worthy of a getting started tutorial
And then a whole series of command line commands to setup folders etc. and install VS Code (which can be had from the MS Store) Yes. I use PowerShell to do all of that. But new user right? This is a Linux paradigm and NOT a Windows or Mac one… meet your user where they are do not try and pull them (in one step) to where you are.
After that, a standard introduction to VSCode and setting up for Python all good. If a new user made it that far… and the wont.
