How to fix monitor that goes black, off or blinks due to static electricity in chair (and others)

A developer working from home experienced their external 4K monitor going black, blinking, or turning off due to static electricity and EMI spikes generated by their office chair. Two root causes were identified: static buildup from plastic chair wheels, and EMI spikes from the gas lift mechanism. Solutions include grounding the chair with a metallic chain to reduce static shocks, and wrapping video cables with ferrite rings to dampen EMI spikes. The ferrite rings reduce but don't fully eliminate the monitor disruptions, especially during quick movements.
