MIT faculty have published 'Priority Technologies,' a book analyzing how the U.S. can maintain and rebuild leadership in six key sectors: semiconductors, biotechnology, critical minerals, drones, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing. Edited by MIT's Elisabeth Reynolds and with a foreword by Nobel laureate Simon Johnson, the book argues that the U.S. must strengthen domestic manufacturing, supply chain resilience, and federal investment in university research to drive economic growth and national security. Each chapter identifies specific vulnerabilities — such as semiconductor manufacturing shifting overseas and biotech lacking production infrastructure — and offers policy recommendations for regaining competitive advantage.
