Article is a little all over the place… some tips I give people I mentor are to focus on either the frontend or backend. Find which one you like and make that your learning path. Being more knowledgable about a subject area can really accelerate your career. Focusing on being come “fullstack” before you learn anything will make it hard to land that first gig, which is 100% the hardest to land.
Some paths of focus:
Frontend:
<ul>
<li>HTML</li>
<li>CSS. Start with vanilla css before you move to tailwind or other engines.</li>
<li>Javascript, do not skip this step and rush to React. While you will put out some sites, landing a job will be more difficult if you don’t have the basics for the technical interviews. Focus on looping through arrays and sorting outputs, Asynchronous code, and unit tests. Knowing tests will give you a leg up.</li>
<li>React/Vue/Angular/Svelte. Pick your poison and ride it out, order I listed is my opinionated view of marketability for jobs.</li>
<li>GraphQL and State management</li>
<li>Caching and Core web vitals, get good and improving speed of your production sites.</li>
</ul>
Backend:
<ul>
<li>Pick your language… Python, JS, Go, Php, Ruby. Same as with frontend, opinionated view of marketability.</li>
<li>Build a REST API turn it into a GraphQL endpoint after.</li>
<li>Connect to a database of your choice, Postgres/Mongo/Mysql. Mongo is easiest, but really isn’t used too much in production.</li>
<li>Authentication, work up some strong security around your API. Its important to have endpoints that don’t expose data you don’t want the public to see.</li>
<li>Explore some backend frameworks, Nest is gaining fast in popularity for JS devs.</li>
