I learned C# as a part of learning Unity. When I started writing apps outside of Unity I decided to go with .NET as I was already familiar with it. After many years of working with C++, C#, Java, JavaScript and Python I came to the conclusion that C# is the perfect balance between simplicity, safety and speed. Since the introduction of top level statements I even use C# for simple scripts where I preferred Python before.

How did you guys get into C#/.NET? Do you think it is a solid option for most projects?

I started making small utilities and games as console applications. I struggled knowing “how” to go beyond the console and build some proper UI, I remember trying C++ and QT, but didn’t get along well with it. I then moved into WPF, and carried on with WPF for years. I then started using Unity both in my personal life and at work, and have grown from there.
These days I am predominantly building either Blazor web apps, or utilities and packages to be reused, generally revolving around Blazor. (For example I am currently working on an SDK for Appwrite in .net).
I’ve never been much of a fan of things outside of c#, c# has where I’ve felt most at home. I delve into js a fair amount currently, as not using it when it already has a thriving ecosystem etc is a mistake…
TL;DR for me is: Console apps &gt; WPF &gt; Unity &gt; Back to WPF &gt; Blazor &amp; Libraries (and have done a little MAUI, but don’t like it all that much, and don’t have a massive need for it)

For me it was accidental, I was hired as a JAVA developer with Java Core, Web, and FX but then within 1 week of joining the team, there was a need for someone to step up and take up a WinForms App/DLLs development, and release within a week followed by writing drivers for device interfacing in C#.
As a fresher (with 0 months of corporate experience), my manager decided to take a call to move me to the .NET/C# sub-team. I had to learn, set up, develop, and test the app, the rest is history. It has been 12 years, and I am still primarily at .NET.

Coming from C and Python in a physics background, I also got into C# through Unity. By now I’ve made several apps with WPF and Avalonia, I use it for just about everything nowadays and loving all the new functional features.

just graduated and started looking what’s the most demanded language in my country, turns out every single enterprise using C# .NET in the country that m living on, so just started from there, on my way had to learn also React then Next.js framework. i would say if you are looking for a job in an enterprise section go with .NET or JAVA depending on the country you are living on. ☺

I was working on a classic asp webapp as a consultant and was handed an <a href="http://Asp.Net" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">Asp.Net</a> 1.1 app to add some features too. That’s been my life ever since.
My rule of thumb has been, if it’s a web application then .Net is a good fit. That said, most languages also fit that rule of thumb. It’s just some are faster than others.
