During the October 20, 2025 AWS us-east-1 outage, applications with multi-region high availability strategies continued operating. Temporal Cloud's multi-region replication enabled customers like FireHydrant to failover their workflows to other regions, maintaining service continuity. The outage revealed both the effectiveness of multi-region architectures and areas for improvement in automated failover processes. Temporal completed failovers for all replicated namespaces within their sub-20 minute RTO, though some experienced delays due to a dependency issue that has since been identified for urgent fixes.
