Clawdbot is an open-source, locally-run AI assistant with persistent memory. Unlike cloud-based alternatives, it stores conversation context in plain Markdown files and uses a two-layer system: daily logs for recent interactions and curated long-term knowledge. Memory is indexed using SQLite with vector embeddings and full-text search, enabling hybrid semantic and keyword retrieval. The system handles context window limits through compaction (summarizing old conversations) and pruning (trimming tool outputs), while a pre-compaction memory flush ensures important information is saved to disk before summarization. Each agent maintains isolated memory, and sessions can automatically archive context when reset.
