As AI enables developers to build their own agentic workflows, platform engineers face a new challenge: agent sprawl. Developers are creating SRE agents, deployment agents, and other automation tools without governance, audit trails, or proper credentials. Platform teams have three options: do nothing, mandate control, or make the platform compelling enough that developers choose to build on it. The recommended path is to provide governed building blocks including a context lake, pre-cleared integrations, approved actions, deterministic policies, audit logging, and human-in-the-loop approval layers. This 'DevEx 2.0' approach lets developers move fast while platform engineers maintain visibility and standards. Port is presented as a tool built for this new platform engineering reality.
