A personal account of setting up Home Assistant on a Beelink mini PC running Proxmox to automate a garden irrigation system. The setup uses a Link-Tap Q1 4-zone water timer connected via a local MQTT broker, with Zigbee sensors (via SONOFF ZBDongle-P and zigbee2mqtt) for soil moisture and climate monitoring. Automations handle daily watering schedules with weather-aware logic and push notifications. Remote access is secured through Cloudflare Tunnels with Zero Trust. The post also covers backup scheduling in Proxmox and an NVMe deep-sleep bug workaround, with future plans for solar energy monitoring and expanded irrigation.
