Synchronous replication means every write is confirmed across multiple nodes before the client gets an acknowledgment.
Zero data loss. But your write latency just doubled.
Asynchronous replication means the primary acknowledges immediately and replicates in the background.
Faster writes. But if the primary dies before replication completes, that data is gone.
Google Cloud SQL uses synchronous replication across availability zones and delivers 99.99% uptime.
